GMC rat rods find their roots in early truck development. In 1909 General Motors purchased Rapid Motor Vehicle Company. Rapid Motors developed some of the earliest trucks in the auto industry. The same year, GMC also purchased Reliance Motor Company. All companies were formally merged in 1911. By 1912, the first truck badged GMC was introduced. GMC produced 372 trucks in 1912. Many 1930 & 1940’s GMC trucks can still be found in fields and barns, just waiting for rat rod builders. 

By the 1940’s, GMC had produced 600,000 trucks for use by the military in WWII. Many wonderful GMC custom rat rods and GMC rat rod trucks can be found on ebay. Early GMC truck bodies offer a great foundation for a GMC rat rod builders. Depending on condition, these trucks can be purchased affordably. Keep an eye out for GMC rat rods for sale on ebay and you might just find a deal.
